Masha, an 18-year-old rescue bear from Ukraine, overcame a traumatic past—being used as bait during hunts—to win FOUR PAWS’s “March Napness” award for the longest hibernation among rescue bears. Despite losing her tail and suffering psychological trauma, Masha awoke from her winter sleep on April 12, outlasting her rival by three days. Residing at Bear Sanctuary Domazhyr since 2018, she now thrives alongside another rescued bear, Potap. Her peaceful daily routine of swimming, exploration, and enrichment activities symbolises both her recovery journey and the healing power of sanctuary care.
